Mr. Leahy, Worlds Jury President
Mr Ken Leahy V Degree black belt and chief instructor of Turners Cross Taekwon-Do Academy was selected to represent Ireland as umpire at the 2011 I.T.F. World Junior and Senior Championships in Wellington, New Zealand. It is indeed a prestigious honour to be selected as an official for the I.T.F. World Championships.and only those officials with the highest of skills, the greatest of experience and the utmost in professionalism are chosen and accepted. To be selected to officiate at the world championships itself is an honour, but to be selected to the position of jury president with responsibility for the entire ring council throughout the duration of the competition was indeed an honour and privilege . Mr. Leahy had this honour for the duration of the competition and held the responsibility for power breaking across all ages taking the sections for junior male, junior female, senior male and senior female, including knockout and final rounds. Special technique was also covered for the junior females by Mr Leahy’s ring council and the team worked very well together reflecting professionalism in all challenges put before them.
A good team makes work loads easier and this was certainly the case with the team in question. In holding this position the trust and responsibility bestowed by the I.T.F. Umpire and tournament is a testament to the high regard in which Mr. Leahy is held at international level. Mr Leahy commented that he looked forward to working together with everyone, and was excited about the experiences and memories we shared at this event. Through the experiences we shared, the exciting performances we graded and the difficult decisions we made, the bonds of friendship that have been developed over the years will continue to grow and flourish after this great event.
