The Polish Central Taekwon-Do Summer Camp took place from the 2nd - 11th July 2010. This was the fifteenth year that the annual camp, organised by the Polish Taekwon-Do Association took place. The venue was the small city of Biala Podlaska in east Poland located 36km from the border with Belarus. 235 Taekwon-Do enthusiasts representing twelve nationalities took part in the camp. The countries represented were; Belarus, Belgium, England, Ireland, Kenya, Latvia, Norway, Russia, Spain, Ukraine, United States and Poland. The Irish delegation included ITA instructors; Mr. Pat Barry 6th Dan, Mr. Mark Buckley 6th Dan, Mr. Donal O'Donoghue 4th Dan, Mr. Leonard Coughlan 3rd Dan, Mr. Derek Hanlon 3rd Dan and Mr. Luke Laffan 2nd Dan accompanied by competitors Ms. Sabina Mason, Chloe Aboud, Sarah Lehane, Katy Laffan, Tiarnan Moriarty, Conor O'Donovan, Sean Fitzgerald and Aoife McCarthy.
The camp was held in the Faculty of Physical Education in the University of Biala Podlaska. The sports facilities are excellent including; a number of large high quality training halls, acrobatics gym, athletics track, 25 meter swimming pool with waterslide plus spa and Jacuzzi facilities.
Taekwon-Do training was led by Master Jerzy Jedut 7th Dan, Master Tadeusz Loboda 7th Dan and Mr. Jaroslaw Suska 5th Dan. In addition to Taekwon-Do technical and sport sessions there was advanced hosinsul classes conducted by Mr. Slawomir Kamola 4th Dan and member of Polish Police, Special Forces.
We were accommodated in the student residences of the university campus, apartments included; fridge, TV set and free Internet connection. The extremely high temperatures and lack of the rain allowed us all to enjoy the sunny weather, which also proved a challenge during the tough training sessions!
Classes with Master Jerzy Jedut were as always very popular among participants. During the camp, he conducted 33 training sessions and 25 hours of individual consultations. Master Jedut presented a wide range of new exercises regarding functional and senso motor training. Master Jedut gained this knowledge on a sports training seminar in Chorzow and refined the techniques to suit the physical needs of Taekwon-Do competitors.
Master Jedut will be conducting classes in Ireland later this year in Dublin and Cork. For the first time he will be accompanied by his famous student, Mr. Jaroslaw Suska. Mr. Suska is regarded as the finest technician in the history of Taekwon-Do having won 18 European Championships and 4 ITF World Championships.
