Strategic Planning Day Report
The ITA Strategic Planning Day took place on Sunday July 3rd 2011. The purpose of the day was to decide the Strategic Plan for the association for 2011 – 2015. This plan will decide the mandate and focus for the ITA Board of Directors and all sub-committees for the next 5 years. The day started with an opening address from Master Kenneth Wheatley VII Dan, ITA President. Master Wheatley welcomed all present outlined the importance of the event, a first for the ITA, encouraged everyone to put their ideas forward so that we can build on the current solid foundations we have as an organization and make the ITA the best it can be on all fronts. Those present divided into four groups and the first task was to complete a SWOT analysis of the ITA, this involved identifying the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats to the organization. The points were summarized and presented by the chairs of each group. After the SWOT analysis was completed the groups next task was to outline actions to address each item identified in the SWOT analysis. The group then broke for lunch, where lively discussion continued. Each of the items from the SWOT were then categorized under headings including; expansion, structure, finance & funding, mission statement and values, relationships, inclusion, communications and marketing, syllabus, education and training, competitions. The final task of the day was to prioritise all items from the SWOT from 1 to 4. Those identified as 1 or 2 would be those with most priority and the task will be to achieve those targets in year one and two. At the end of the event all present left with a renewed enthusiasm for further building the Irish Taekwon-Do Association and making it the best possible organization for all its members. The strategic plan will be compiled in the coming weeks and distributed to all ITA members as well as being published on the ITA website (www.taekwondo.ie). Special thanks to the Board of Directors of the ITA, all those that attended and also to Mr. Adrian Byrne V Dan who was the main facilitator on the day.
