Technical Seminar Report
The second ITA Technical Seminar of 2011 took place on Sunday June 5th in Donabate Taekwon-Do Club, Co. Dublin. The Seminar was conducted by the ITA Technical Committee; Master Kenneth Wheatley VII Dan, Mr. Stephen Ryan V Dan and Mr. Niall Jones V Dan. The course was attended by 40 participants from Blue belt to 6th Dan. The day started with a focus on the ITF patterns and correcting common faults in the sine-wave, application of techniques and in-depth analysis of how to perform each pattern. After the lunch break Mr. Ryan conducted a session on conditioning the body to improve pattern and kicking performance. The session focused on the key points of improving the posture, standing foot position, trajectory of the kicks and leg strength exercises. After this session the seminar focused on step sparring and clarifications were made on the procedures and protocols for 3,2 and 1 step sparring. Master Wheatley lead a discussion on protocol and the tenets of Taekwon-Do and the importance of showing respect to our senior grades but also how the senior grades and Masters have a responsibility to show courtesy to their peers and juniors. The last portion of the seminar focused again on the ITF patterns up to Tong-Il.
The next ITA Technical Seminar will take place in Cork in September.Stephen Ryan
