World Championships Selections

World Championships Selections

On behalf of the management and coaching staff of the ITF Ireland National Team, I would like to invite declarations of interest from competitors for the 18th Senior and 12th Junior ITF World Championships, to be held in Benidorm, Spain, on the 23rd to 27th October 2013.

Any eligible competitor (Black belts aged 14 or more on the 23rd October) who wishes to be selected should complete the attached National Team Competitor form and return it by email to the national coaching panel at: itfireland@gmail.com on or before Sunday 9th June. Selections will be based in the first instance on the current ranking points of competitors based on ITF World Cup 2012, ITA Irish Cup 2012, ITA Cork Open 2013, INTA Irish Open 2013, AETF European Cup 2013, AETF European Championships 2013 and ITA Black Belt Open 2013. The highest ranked competitor in each division will typically be offered the first slot, with the exception of uncontested divisions. In uncontested divisions the coaches reserve the right to select or not select competitors based on past competitive performance, current training etc

Second and third slots (in the case of juniors) will be filled based on coaches selections with reference to ranking, current form, domestic and international results.

Team places will be chosen by the coaching panel with the aim of achieving the highest possible medal tally for Team Ireland. The composition of teams and prioritisation of any particular team event will be at the discretion of the coaching panel.

We hope to be in a position to make initial offers of team places to competitors within 10 days of receiving the declarations of interest. Depending on the competitors who apply, acceptance or rejection of offers and so on, alternates may need to be notified or selection matches run to finalise the squad. All competitors will be given 7 days from the time a position is offered to them to accept or reject their position. A deposit of €200 will be required to confirm your acceptance of a squad position.

Timeline:
9th June: Declarations of interest to national coaching panel itfireland@gmail.com
19th June: Initial offers
26th June: Acceptance or rejection of initial offers (deposit of €200)
7th July: Deadline for all selections, including alternates and teams

I will be in touch within the next week with the full training programme up to the World Championships.

On behalf of the national team coaching and management panel

Adrian Byrne
