Opening a Taekwon-Do School
Preliminary Requirements
Minimum Age: 18 years old
Achieve at least 1st Degree Blackbelt
Complete the Safeguarding 1 course
Receive Garda Vetting through the Taekwon-Do Advisory Board
Complete a Basic First Aid Course and hold current certification
Coach Education
Complete the IMAC Introduction to Coaching Course
Taekwon-Do-specific Introduction to coaching courses are generally run twice per year around the country by the Coaching Ireland trained Coach-Developers of the Taekwon-Do Advisory Board. This course can be completed by Taekwon-Do Students from age 16 years old and up with a grade of 4th Kup (bluebelt).
Qualify as an IMAC Level 1 Taekwon-Do Coaching
The Taekwon-Do specific Level 1 coaching course is run annually and Taekwon-Do students aged 17 and above who hold a minimum grade of 8th Kup (Red Belt) can participate in the course. For those taking the course, below the age of 18, certification will be held off until they reach 18 years old.
New Club Application Process
When the above requirements are fulfilled you are ready to apply to open an ITA Taekwon-Do club
Provisionally arrange a venue (remember opening the club will be subject to approval by the ITA board of Directors)
Complete in full the ITA New club Application form (can be found in the downloads section of taekwondo.ie)
Send the completed form along with a copy of the Safeguarding 1 cert, first aid cert, Garda vetting cert to ITA Secretary General
When approval has been received from the ITA Board, the new instructor must do the following:
Appoint a Club Children’s Officer (who has completed the Safeguarding 2 course with the Irish Martial Arts Commission)
Apply for Garda vetting for assistant instructors, class assistants and club volunteers
Organise adequate insurance cover for their club and forward a copy to the ITA insurance officer
