Course Aim
The aim of the course is to:
• Enable coaches to introduce participants to ITF Taekwon-Do in a safe, progressive and enjoyable way
• Equip participants with basic coaching skills which they can develop under the supervision of a senior coach
• Identify key factors in working with young participants, typically 6-12 years
Entry Requirements
Course candidates will be aged 18 years or over and will hold a grade of 1st Dan or higher. Candidates will be asked to sign on to abide by the IMAC code of Ethics and Child Protection Policy. We advise at least 6 months of practice in a coaching role between completing the Introduction to Coaching and undertaking this award. In addition the following certificates must be presented:
Introduction to Coaching ITF Taekwon-Do
Safeguarding 1
IMAC Garda Vetting Certificate
Sports First Aid / Occupational First Aid

The course will be delivered over 2 weekends (12 hours per weekend + breaks)

Personal Dress and Materials
Course participants should bring Dobok and Belt, track suit, training shoes, writing materials
Methodology
Class based and on the mat presentations, during which coaches will be involved in practical coaching including planning, organisation, observation, demonstration, analysis, provision of feedback, evaluation, so as to contribute to the coaching process as an assistant to an experienced coach.
Tutors
At least 75% of the course will be delivered by CDPI Coach Developers.
Coaching Materials
A coach’s manual, worksheet material and a logbook (4 sessions) will be provided. Participants will also be given soft copies of all presentations and video used on the course.
Assessment
There is a multi-part assessment of coaches on this programme. You will be required to complete:
• Logbook including 4 Coaching Sessions (Completed in your club and peer reviewed)
• Practical assessment (on course with children aged 9-12, pre-planned topics)
• Full attendance during all presentations is mandatory
Certification
On successful completion of all course requirements a CDPI Level 1 Assistant Club Coach certificate will be issued with IMAC and Sport Ireland Coaching accreditation.
On-going Support
Further practical coaching experience and involvement in a Level 2 Senior Club Coach course are recommended for those who wish to become senior coaches in their own schools/clubs. All successful candidates will have access to coaching fora, continuous professional development workshops and further coach education opportunities.
